School Site Council (SSC)/Site Governance Team (SGT)

The McKinley School Site Council (SSC) and the McKinley Site Governance Team (SGT) are an elected, decision-making group made up of parents, teachers, the principal, school staff, and community members who work together to do great things for McKinley's kids.

The SSC plans school goals and objectives, reviews and approves program modifications, monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. The Council is charged with the legal responsibility to insure services that meet the needs of special student populations. The SSC is also responsible for categorical funding, such as Title I and Second Language, which are used to benefit student achievement and parent involvement. In other words, the SSC helps make decisions about how to provide an outstanding education program for all students at McKinley!

SGT members act as an advisory body on issues other than major categorical programs. McKinley's SGT provides a shared decision-making base empowered to plan, problem solve, and make recommendations to improve the quality of education and working life at McKinley.

This year we have openings on our SSC/SGT committees. Meetings are held monthly on the first Tuesday of each month from 4-6pm in the Media Center. This group is a very important decision making body over resources and instructional goals so please contact the office if you are interested in becoming a member.

Elected parents serve in both groups. All meetings are open and parents/guardians are welcome to attend.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Schools which have twenty-one or more English as a Second Language (ESL) students also have an English Learner Advisory Committee. ELAC advises the principal and school staff on programs and services for English Learners. ELAC Officers are elected every two years. ELAC serves as the advisory body to the school on four key issues:

  • The school plan for English learners
  • Needs assessment
  • Administration of the language census
  • Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of attendance

Monthly meetings are held on Wednesday (tba) at 9:15 a.m. in the Community Room. Please contact the principal or ELAC Advisor, Susan O'Brien, if you would like to be part of our ELAC.
