Tutoring

Many of McKinley's parents and community members, including local college students, volunteer as tutors. McKinley receives help from tutors and student teachers from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU).

Want to make a difference in the life of a child?

Come be a McKinley Elementary Tutor. All it takes is one hour a week. In just one hour a week, you can help a child learn to read, learn about the world, and most importantly, learn they are important enough for someone to take an interest in their well-being.

McKinley Elementary School , located on the corner of Felton and Redwood Streets in North Park, is excited to provide an opportunity for our neighbors to come in and help our kids. We provide the training, the support, the materials, and of course the children who are willing and anxious to learn. The children provide the rewards!

Children who have participated in this program have had this to say:

"I passed a spelling test for the first time!"

"Now I know how to organize my homework folder."

"It made me feel special."

Their tutors loved the experience of helping kids in their community. It only takes an hour a week to give a child the gift of a lifetime - the confidence and ability to learn!
