Homework

School and district policies require homework and outside reading on a regular basis. Each teacher has a Homework Policy for his/her classroom that meets these requirements. Your child will bring home a copy of the Homework Policy for his or her classroom during the first few weeks of school. Please review this with your child.

Homework, is students applying what they have learned. Many believe when homework assignments are successfully completed by the student, the teacher has succeeded as an educator and the student has succeeded at learning.

There are many ways to insure your child's homework experience is successful and not filled with frustration. One helpful hint is making sure the necessary supplies are always available. Put all needed items in one container and keep on hand. Some of the items needed might be: Pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, markers, paper, glue, stapler, tape, pens, rubber bands, erasers, paper clips, ruler, scissors, and a dictionary. Please be sure all items are age appropriate.

Parents can provide a positive homework experience by following these helpful hints:

  • Set up a quiet area for homework/study time.
  • Set aside the same time each night when you expect your child to complete their homework. Some children do their homework as soon as they get home from school, while some children do better after having a break. Parents and children can work out a time that works best.
  • Give your child help when needed, but don't do the homework for them. Many times parents can fall into the trap of giving too much help. Always remember that this is a learning experience for your child and should be their own responsibility.
